Two wins for tennis team
BURNLEY Tennis Club almost made it a clean sweep of successes over the weekend.
The A and B side both secured victories, over Parkwood A and Sunnyhurst respectively.
However, it was defeat for the C team, who lost out on a countback of games won against Parkwood B.
Against Parkwood A, David Whittaker and Kristian Hodgson won both their rubbers, beating the first pair 6-4, 6-4 and the second pair 6-1, 6-2.
That was followed by a 3-6, 3-6 defeat for Simon Finnan and Paul Barlow in their first rubber, only for them to win their second 7-5, 6-1, to seal a 4-1 win.
The B team beat Sunnyhurst by the same score, with David Thorpe and Adam Walne winning both their rubbers, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, and 6-1, 6-3.
Steve Palmer and Chris Rowell beat their first pair 6-1, 6-2, but then lost to Sunnyhurst's first pair, 4-6, 1-6.
The C team were unlucky not to taste victory over Parkwood B, with Phil Teasdale and Daniel Penrose winning both their rubbers, 6-3, 7-6 and 7-6, 6-4.
D. Bradshaw and Andrew Gledhill were a little unfortunate not to win a rubber, losing 4-6, 5-7 and 1-6, 2-6, as they lost the match on countback.
