Tennis winners
DEFEAT turned into victory for Burnley Tennis Club's A team at the weekend.
Iain Taylor and Simon Finnan lost their first rubber against Crosshills A, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6.
But that second set turned out to be a match winner, as they won a tight East Lancashire Tennis League Open First Division encounter on sets.
The pair had no problems in their second rubber, winning 6-3, 6-2, before Ken Greenwood and Adam Walne won their first rubber 6-3, 6-2, and lost their second 2-6, 2-6.
Meanwhile, the B team whitewashed Blackburn Northern C 5-0 in their Open Second Division clash.
David Thorpe and Steve Palmer were in fine form, winning in style 6-2, 7-5 and 6-4, 6-0, before Danny Taylor and Matt Hargreaves won their rubbers 6-1, 6-4 and 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
Another 5-0 victory was produced by the C team against Crosshills C, while Burnley D suffered a 5-0 defeat in their match, as D Bradshaw and D.Cranfield lost 2-6, 3-6 and 5-7, 2-6, and L. Taylor and P. Ashworth lost 1-6, 4-6 and 4-6, 0-6.
In the Ladies' First Division, Burnley A lost 8-1 to Blackburn Northern A, with Donna Stott and Jo Heywood losing 6-7, 6-4 and 6-7, 6-7.
Jenny Stewart and Jill Thorpe were on the wrong end of a good hiding, losing 0-6, 1-6 and 1-6, 3-6.
However, in the Mixed Second Division, Burnley A thrashed a poor Crosshill B team 9-0.
Matt Hargreaves and Alison Padgett won both their rubbers, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0, while Daniel Hargreaves and Jenny Stewart did likewise, 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-1.
