DEFENDING champion Paul Guinan was twice the bridesmaid in the latest rounds of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix.
The Blackburn Harriers runner finished second in both the Whalley Nab Fell Race and the Cliviger Six.

Returning after a brief summer break, Andy Buttery, of Rossendale Harriers, pipped him by just over 40 seconds in the former, while Staffs Moorland's Marc Hartley won by just 21 seconds at Cliviger.

Hartley also came third at Whalley, while Horwich's Paul Muller was third in the other.

In the ladies' races, Accrington's Sarah Ridehalgh won at Whalley, ahead of Clayton duo Tracy Mitchell and Maureen Laney.

But it was Mitchell who took the honours at Cliviger, ahead of Trawden's Molly Ralphson and Clayton's Vicki Pratt.

The final round of this season's competition sees the Worsthorne Moor Fell Race take place on Friday, starting from Gorple Road in Worsthorne at 11 a.m.

And Friday week, August 22nd, sees the annual presentation night take place at Barrowford Civic Hall, starting at 8 p.m.

For a full list of results from both the Whalley Nab and Cliviger Six races, see Tuesday's Burnley Express.
