A RIGOROUS police crackdown on metal thefts took to the roads as officers inflicted Operation Ferrous on vehicle owners in Burnley.
The team from Burnley were joined by a host of authorities for the operation including HM Customs and Excise, the Pennine ANPR team, VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency), Environment Agency and Burnley Borough Council.

More than 50 vehicles were stopped in the Accrington Road and Todmorden Road area on Tuesday where each agency carried out their own thorough checks. One vehicle was reported for fraudulent use of motor trade plates which were seized, another was issued with an immediate prohibition while five vehicles were issued with delayed prohibitions.

In addition 42 vehicles were dipped for red diesel.

Police also issued a number of HORT 1 documents asking the owners of their vehicles to produce their driving licenses, insurance, MOT and waste trader license documents at their local police station.
