FIREFIGHTERS and police are investigating a blaze which broke out in the old Lambert Howarth factory.
The fire started at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday in an area on the first floor of the derelict factory in Healey Wood Road, Burnley, and was spreading to part of the second floor as firefighters started to tackle it.

Two fire engines from Burnley rushed to the scene and crew had to use a ladder to get into the building.

Hose reels, breathing apparatus were used to put out the flames, and ventilation units were used to clear the smoke from the building.

Police have been informed of the fire and are investigating, but watch manager Neil Mark of Burnley Fire Station said that the fire may not be suspicious.

The Lambert Howarth factory closed in 1997 following 200 redundancies. It was formerly a major manufacturer and supplier of footwear, most famously to Marks and Spencer.
