BURNLEY suffered a disastrous start to the season as they were thumped by Sheffield Wednesday.
The Clarets were 2-0 down within three minutes to goals from Marcus Tudgay and Akpo Sodje.
And despite Martin Paterson getting off the mark with a debut header three minutes later, Sodje made it 3-1 after 16 minutes.
And Tudgay added a fourth just after the hour to seal a miserable afternoon for Owen Coyle's side.
Just 30 seconds into the new season, and Diego Penny - one of four players handed their Clarets bow, along with Paterson, Chris Eagles and Remco van der Schaaf - was picking the ball out of his own net.

Moments later, Deon Burton lifted a pass over Steven Caldwell for strike partner Sodje, who arrowed home first time with a fierce strike.
Paterson headed a Wade Elliott cross past Lee Grant from close range to give Burnley hope, and they looked like they might level when Eagles broke, with Elliott in space on the right, and nearly weaved his way through, only to be blocked at the death by Beevers.
Wednesday broke through Johnson, and he scuffed a cross-shot to the far post, where a suspiciously off-side looking Sodje steered in.
After the break, Penny saved from Tudgay, and Robbie Blake saw a free kick deflected just wide, before Burton and substitute Leon Clarke - on for the injured Sodje - combined to release Tudgay, who made no mistake for the fourth, to put the game out of reach.
Burnley didn't look like clawing their way back in the game, while Penny was again forced into action to deny Clarke and Tudgay.
The outstanding James O'Connor, making his bow against his old club, got a standing ovation after being replaced by Steve Watson with three minutes remaining, as Wednesday celebrated a stunning start to the campaign.
Burnley will now look to lift themselves for the Carling Cup trip to Bury on Tuesday.
