CLARETS boss Owen Coyle admitted he derived more joy from the win at QPR than the stunning Carling Cup upset at Chelsea.
Burnley completed a superb West London double at Loftus Road on Saturday.

And his players demonstrated no hangover after their midweek heroics three-and-a-half miles across town at Stamford Bridge.

Coyle remembered back to the after effects of a cup win at Ibrox during his time at the helm at St Johnstone.

And he explained: "This might sound bizarre but I'll take more enjoyment and pleasure from Saturday's game.

"When I was manager of St Johnstone we beat Rangers in a quarter-final and on the Saturday we had a poor result.

"So it was so important to me, as a manager, that we went out and showed we didn't win (at Chelsea) by accident, and we didn't want it to be 'After the Lord Mayor's show'.

"What it does, by winning, I think it helps you enjoy even more what you did during the week.

"It would have probably left a sour taste certainly in my mouth if we hadn't have won on Saturday after the result and performance we had during the week."

And he took great pleasure from his players' focus and will to win.

He continued: "We'd said before that with Wolves away, Chelsea away and QPR away that it was going to be a daunting task, but all credit to the players they've shown the desire they have to play for the football club.

"It was going to be a big ask at QPR, given the exertions of the midweek win, but I thought we started the game well and actually felt a bit aggrieved to be a goal down.

"But the spirit and desire the lads have for each other was so evident, and it was there in abundance.

"And to come back, after everything we've done during the week, then it just shows the strength of character we have to go with the ability.

"We'd asked that they started the game the way they finished and give everything they had.

"We knew the mindset, but it was going to be important that we started well, and I felt we did.

"To go a goal behind it would have been very easy to think 'I'm physically or mentally tired' but nothing could be further from the truth with that group of players.

"They give you everything they've got on a daily basis, and it's being replicated in games.

"It's no accident the performances they're churning out are because of the hard work on the training ground, so I'm delighted.

"We have an appetite for hard work, and that will continue."
