BURNLEY boss Owen Coyle bemoaned his side's slack defending as they went down to a heavy opening day defeat at Hillsborough.
The Clarets conceded two goals in the first three minutes, and were 3-1 down after 16 minutes, before losing a fourth goal just after the hour.
And Coyle, smarting at the setback, said: "I think the defending was nothing short of naive to begin with.
"You would certainly have never envisaged being 2-0 down within three and a half minutes.
"From our point of view, they were really soft goals.
"I can accept being beaten, and I can accept somebody working really hard to score a goal against you, but I don't think Sheffield Wednesday had to work particularly hard for any of their goals.
"At 2-1 we got back in, but lost a very poor goal on the counter attack."
