ONE bright spot for Burnley over a gloomy weekend was Besart Berisha's explosive start to life on loan at Rosenborg.
The 23-year-old, who has yet to play a competitive game for the Clarets after his £340,000 move from Hamburg last summer, joined the Norwegian Premiership side on Friday until the turn of the year.

He was handed a baptism of fire on Sunday night against Molde, but netted twice in a 3-1 win for the UEFA Cup qualifiers, and, contrary to some reports in the national press, the Albanian international does still have a future at Turf Moor.

Coyle said: "I'm delighted. That was the purpose for Besart, to go and get games, so that when he comes back to us he comes back fully fit and raring to go.

"The lad had been out for a year with a career-threatening injury. I spoke to him and said you need to get games, and the way it is just now with Paterson, Blake and Eagles, it was going to be difficult for him to start just now.

"But there's no doubt he's a player with capabilities, and if he can get an extended run in that Rosenborg team, then he comes back to us on January 1st fully fit and ready to have an impact.

"It was dual purpose, one it helps Besart get that fitness, and two it helps us at the football club that he comes back with a part to play.

"He could have sat here and played the reserve games, but I don't think he would have got to the level that he will playing at Rosenborg.

"I'm absolutely delighted for him, and really delighted for us, because if he continues to get those games he comes back, and it's served the purpose that Rosenborg have given him those games to get fully fit.

"We've got a player coming back confident, knowing he's ready to play a part, so it's a win-win situation."

No matter how Berisha continues to perform in Norway, however, there is no chance of an early return: "The way cross-border loans work, you can't recall anyway, but he needs those games.

"It's great that he's scored on his debut, but he's going to need an extended run of games and to play for a few months because he's missed a year exactly. That's a long time out, so there'll be rustiness.

"He's obviously got a boost from the fact he's going to be playing and starting games, and that's given him a great lift. I hope that continues, and the biggest thing for us is, whether he scores or not, that he gets that fitness.

"Their season runs til the end of November, but because of the UEFA Cup it will run to the middle of December, at which point he comes back and he's ready to play his part."

Berisha has linked up at the Trondheim club with Erik Hamrén, who was his manager in a previous loan spell at Danish Superliga side Aalborg, and Coyle detailed why he has gone to Norway, rather than a loan in the Football League: "The problem was, because he'd been out for a year, nobody really knew Besart in England.

"The reason he's at Rosenborg is it's his former coach who's in charge.
"With all due respect, it probably would have been difficult for anybody else, because nobody knows him as such, and he's been out for a year.

"Rosenborg, to an extent, have taken a chance, after a year out with a cruciate, but the coach knew him and that spoke volumes for him. He had a medical and they've seen that he's okay, but any other coach might have been a bit sceptical, not knowing the lad.

"His coach had known him from his time in Denmark and that helped.
"We know he's got ability, he just needs to get games.

"The Norwegian league's a decent league, and that was the purpose for it.
"If you'd put him on loan to a lesser league it wouldn't have served a purpose. It would have been the same as him playing reserve games with alll due respect.

"He had to go to a decent level, where he felt comfortable, and that was important as well. It wasn't just a case of shoving him out, he's working with a guy he trusted so he felt comfortable in that environment, knowing he has three or four months to do that.

"He's desperate to do well. He's a great lad, we've all got a lot of time for him and a high opinion of him. He just needs to get games consistently, 90 minutes under his belt and keep that going."

And Coyle reiterated that he is very much still a part of his plans: "(Selling him) hasn't even been discussed. It's a view to getting him fit so he's got a role to play when he comes back in January."
